This set is intended for use in student projects in Dr. Jake Son’s IDES 315 course, providing essential materials that support the construction of detailed, high quality building models with confidence and precision. Whether students are shaping structural elements, developing façade concepts, or adding lighting features to their designs, this set offers the core components needed to transform ideas into tangible architectural models.

What’s Included in the Set

This all in one model making kit includes all of the primary materials needed for each student to construct a complete two story building model.

Each kit includes 6 Basswood Sheets measuring 12″ x 12″ x 1/8″ and 6 Basswood Sheets measuring 12″ x 18″ x 1/8″. As requested by Dr. Jake Son, the exterior wall components will be precut before shipment so students can begin assembly more efficiently.

The exterior walls use 5 of the 12″ x 12″ basswood sheets and 4 of the 12″ x 18″ basswood sheets. After the exterior wall components are cut, each kit will also include 1 uncut 12″ x 12″ basswood sheet and 2 uncut 12″ x 18″ basswood sheets. These remaining panels are intended for students to create their interior walls and other interior architectural elements as needed for their individual designs.

The kit also includes 2 Acrylic Sheets measuring 12″ x 16″ x 1/8″. After the acrylic required for the exterior wall openings is prepared, the remaining acrylic, approximately 11″ x 8″, will be included in the package. Students may use this remaining acrylic to create interior glass walls, partitions, or other transparent interior elements.

Each student will also receive a total of 32 Basswood Dowels measuring 5/16″ x 5/16″. The dowel lengths will be automatically selected based on the student’s loft configuration. Depending on the number and location of loft floors in the design, the kit will include the appropriate combination of 4.75″ and 5.75″ long dowels. Students therefore do not need to select the dowel lengths separately.

The kit also includes 10 LED lights for integration throughout the building model, allowing students to incorporate lighting effects into multiple floors and ceiling areas.

One bottle of Instant Glue is also included for quick and reliable model assembly.

All materials will be organized and shipped together in one box, with the exterior wall components precut according to the specifications requested by Dr. Jake Son. The remaining uncut basswood and acrylic materials are provided specifically for students to customize the interior walls, glass partitions, and other interior design elements of their individual models.
